Yet another long-servico record is claimed by a firm at Stroud, Gloucestershire, which has had members of one family working for it for 374 years, .spread over the father, mother, and children. Wife (looking up from newspaper) : ‘‘ It says hero, dear, that a man has just married a girl ho first met when ho dashed into a burning building and saved her life.” Husband: “ H’m—that should teach him to mind Iris own business in future! ” Husband: “ Violet, isn’t there something burning in the kitchen? ” Wife: “ Yes, it’s the cake in the oven—hut I can’t take it out, for according to the cookery book it should stay in another ten minutes.”
