Mr A. C. Mitchell, president of tha New Zealand Employers’ Federation,; arrived in, Dunedin last night from the north, and left for Invercargill to-day, A pleasant surprise was received by Dr and Mrs Gibb at their home in Seatoun when the office-bearers of St. John’s Church called (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington) to extend congratulations and express good wishes on the occasion of tho fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. Dr and Mrs Gibb were presented with a tangible recognition of the esteem in which they are held by the office-bear-er's and many friends of St. John’s, together with an appropriate address. Mr H. E. Marton, of Melbourne, who, with Mr H. D. Vickery, of Wellington city administration, has arrived from Sydney (says a Press Association telegram). Mr Marton, who will be chairman of the commission, was for many years city engineer in Melbourne, and When Sydney was placed under a commission he was the second of three commissioners appointed. Since then, he has been engaged in other inquiries, including an investigation into thecivio affairs of Hobart. _ The scope of the Wellington inquiry is very wide and includes an investigation of every branch of the corporation’s activities. It is expected that the inquiry will extend over three months. Tho Rev. Leslie B. Neale, with Mrs Neale and daughter, left by motor car for Auckland to-day on one month’s holiday. Mr A. E. Orr, from Methodist Theological College, Auckland, will conduct most of the mission services during the Rev. Mr Neale’s absence. New names in the guest book at tho City Hotel include Mr Paul Cullen (Auckland), Mr and Mrs J. Sullivan, the Misses Morkane, Mr and Mrs J. Holdsworth (Christchurch), Mr and Mi's V- Meehan, Mr J. Wilson (Timaru), Mr R. Adamson (Oamaru), Mr J. E. M‘Donald (Gore), Mr and Mrs S. Bridgeford (Invercargill). Those staying at the Grand Hotel include Mr and Mrs A. C. Mitchell and Miss Mitchell (Wellington), Mr and Mrs P. N. Quartermain, Miss L. M. : Banks, Miss D. E. Menzies, Mr S. P. Warburton (Christchurch), Mr R. Turney Cole (Oamaru), Mr and Mrs C. W. Treeby, Mr A. J. Bradshaw (Invercargill) .
