CHRISTMAS PAIRS GREEN WINNERS AT PLAY The Christmas Pairs tournament of tho Dunedin Bowling Centre was continued under ideal weather conditions on the Otago Gx - een this morning, the players engaged being green winners from all over the city and suburbs. The first and second _ rounds of this stage of _ the competition were played off, leaving the semi-finals and final to be fought out this afternoon. The results are as follow: FIRST ROUND. J. Mooney and J. J. Read (Anderson’s Bay) 16, T. Cubitt and J. Ramsay (Kaikorai) 12. J. M‘Pherson and J. Veitch (West Harbour) 18, Crawford and E. Falconer (Otago) 16. SECOND ROUND. C. H. Mackay and J. Forster (Caversham) 15, H. Henderson and H. Smeaton (Kaituna) 13. Read 15, G. Hely and H. Greenwood (Mornington) 14. J. C. Rigby and W. Hogg (Dunedin) 19, Veitch 11. The first round game between the representatives of West Harbour and Otago started off with Otago scoring 2 in a very open head, which was more than equalised when Veitch scored 3, and then 4. Falconer, however, with a good shot in tho next head, got a 5, making him 7, and putting him 4 in the lead. Then Veitch came to light by scoring 3 and equalising the totals. At about the tenth head play was fluctuating, and at the end of it both were again even. A 4at the eleventh saw Veitch raise his tally to 15, and Falconer scored a 2 . at the next. Veitch proved superior in the last two heads, and won by 18 to 16. The game in which players from Kaikorai and Anderson’s Bay took part produced small scoring for the first seven heads, 5 to 3 in favour of Anderson’s Bay being tho total. At the tenth head the Pay was 6 up, but wins to Ramsay in the eleventh and twelfth in 1 and 4 carried the score to 9 all. The three last heads saw Read score a 4 and a 3 against 3 to Ramsay, leaving the final tally 16 to 12 in favour of the Anderson’s Bay pair. Playing in tlm second round, Forster won narrowly with singles in the first two heads, but Smeaton took the next head in a similar figure. A four to each pair in the next two heads left Forster leading by 6 to 5. At the end of the twelfth head the players were equal, Smeaton having picked up lost leeway with a 4 in the eleventh head. With 3 in the thirteenth, Forster gained a useful lead.

Greenwood and Read staged a close and exciting finish, but Hogg (Dunedin) had a good run at the expense of Veitch, winning by 19 to 11.
