CYCLING EVENTS AT WAIPIATA Three cycling handicaps and a scratch race were staged by the Waipiata Amateur Athletic Club at its annual meeting on Hexing Hay, some hue uding being witnessed. J. C. Fogarty, the Otago track champion, was in line term, and won the one and a-half mile and two-mile handicaps and also the mile scratch race, in addition to being third in the Half-mile. The principal cycling results were — Half-mile Handicap.—G. Milligan (oOvds) 1, W. Templeton (doyds) 2, J. C. Fogarty (scr) 3. Mdhgan led all the way, and won comfortably trom templeton, who was just ahead ol fiogarty and Forrest. , lT .. T One Mile and A-half Handicap.—.!. C Fogarty (scr) 1, A. Forrest (scr) 2 G. Milligan (10yds) 3. Fogarty and Forrest rode together, and overtook the field with two laps to go. At the bell Fogarty took the lead, followed by horrcst, and in a desperate finish in the straight Fogarty won by two lengths, the 'same distance separating second and third. Time, 3min 43 l-bsce. Two-mile Handicap.—J. , 0 1 ' art , y (scr) 1, G. Milligan (130yds) 2, AS. Templeton (130yds) 3. The back markers made no impression on the leaders in the first mile, and with three laps to go the front men seemed to have matters well in hand. In the next lap, however, Fogarty left I'arrest and overtook the field in fine stylo to go on and win by several lengths from Milligan, who headed Templeton.
