TOURING CRICKET TEAM.

TO TH* EDITOR. Sir—Tffe most noteworthy fact to be gained from Mr Rowland’s disclosures Is the firm stand taken by the president in regard to the finances of the association, and bis clear view as to the inadvisability of sending a manager with the team. Another peculiar statement i« that regarding Mr Brookes s inquiry as to the appointment of a manager. Is it to be assumed that this matter was not on the agenda paper? In view of the fact that Mr Brookes was Mr Rowland’s proposer and has since been his staunchest champion, tbe matter now seems rather significant, Mr Rowland has made a great deal of noise about the treatment he has received, hut he knew tbe financial posttion of the association, and he cannot have failed to observe the trend ot current public opinion about the matter, especially as he draws attention to the fact that comment was made regarding the advisability of tho appointment in one of the weekly papers some time ago. Tho greatest test that any supporter of an amateur game can undergo is when he is asked to sacrifice something for that game. In this case the matter was not merely one of the expenditure of £ls. It was the permanent alienation of a large number of financial supporters of the game that had to be considered, and Mr Fraser is to he congratulated on the long view that he has taken. I am aiven to understand that Mr Rowland has had more trips _at the expense of tbe association and its supporters than any other member of that body. He was given by the president the opportunity to make a* graceful withdrawal, but failed to rise to the occasion. He has been weighed in the balance and found wanting.—l am,, etc., Cato.
