The Postmaster-General (Hon. A. Hamilton) arrived by the train from the north yesterday afternoon, and went on by tho evening express to hi? homo in Invercargill, where he will remain for about a fortnight. Mr Willi Fels was a passenger lor the north by the first express to-day. Mr W. Butler, who is to umpire in the Wellington-Canterbury cricket match, went north to-day. Mr Mark Silverstone was a passenger for Timaru by the first express. Mr A. E. Ansell, M.P., left to-day on a visit to Christchurch.
Mr D. F. H. Sharpe, accompanied by his family, has gone to Lawrence for the holidays. Mr Janies Wallace was a passenger for the south by this morning’s express. Mr G. J. Barton is taking a trip to Auckland, having entrained by tho 11.35 express to-day. For her pure unselfishness and sacrifice in permitting her husband on so many occasions to leave hearth and home to battle for New Zealand’s honour on the Rugby football field, a group of Wellington sportsmen last evening presented Mrs Mark Nicholls with a handsome brown leather handbag, containing £63 in crisp bank notes. The presentation was made in the mayor’s room by the deputy-mayor. . At tbe conclusion of a happy little' function, Mr T. W. Leslie, chairman off the committee, addressing Mrs* Nicholls, said: “I hope to see all your boys just as good footballers as Mark.”; Cheers for Mrs Nicholls and Mark Nicholls concluded the gathering.—> Press Association. New guests at the City Hotel are Mr J. C. Toomey (Wanganui), Mr and Mrs P, M. Collins (Christchurch), Miss C.Brewer, Mr W. Y. Campbell (Invercargill). Latest visitors to the Excelsior Hotel are Miss A. T. Hunter (Cornwall, England), Mr and Mrs Pirie, Mr D. Cody , (Wellington), Miss E. Craighead) (Christchurch), Mr R. A. R. Smith (Tarras), Mr James Parccll (Cromwell) .
