SHIPPING
The phosphate ship Astoria, which has been having repairs carried out in dry dock, will sail this evening or tomorrow for Ocean Island. The ferry steamer Tarewai was hauled on the slip at Port Chalmers to-day for the renewal of some planking which was damaged by a smouldering fire which was discovered in the bunkers on Saturday morning. The vessel will be ready for the holiday traffic. PORT MELBOURNE FOR N.Z. Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Melbourne is to load in New Zealand. The vessel left London on November 15 for Australian ports for discharge, and is duo at Bluff on January 12, Port Chalmers on January 18, thence Picton, Wellington, and Auckland, sailing finally from the lastnamed port on February 2 for London.
