RESCUED IN MID-ATLANTIC
THE AZTEC'S CREW (British Official Wireless.) Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, December 18. Elder and Fyffe’s steamer Aztec has reached Southampton, having* rescued in mid-Atlantic the captain and crew of the three-masted schooner Ria with great difficulty in heavy seas and at night. The Aztec launched a boat manned by volunteers, and took off the Ri&’s crew. Afterwards the captain was taken back to set fire to the abandoned schooner. [A previous message stated that, rendered helpless by storms, and leaking badly, the schooner Ria, from Newfoundland, drifted for seventeen days in the mid-Atlantic. The captain and crew were forced to catch rain water to quench their thirst. They burned clothing to < attract the attention of passing ships, and they were finally sighted at night by the steamer Aztec.]
