PRIZES FOR JOURNALISTS [Special to the ‘ Star.’] AUCKLAND, December 21. A high standard was shown this year by entries in the annual competition for prizes by the New Zealand Journalists’ Union. The first prize was won by Mr 11. Palmer, of the Christchurch ‘Sun,’ with a story, ‘Telephone Call To London,’ an account of the first telephonic communication between a New Zealand town and England, The second prize was awarded to Mr V. Duinbleton,' of the Auckland ‘ Star’ who entered a first-hand account of the Napier earthquake, written on the scene. Mr M. P. Whatman, of Christchurch ‘Star,’ was placed third, with an account of the treatment meted out to a number of New Zealanders who were detained on arriv-1 in Vancouver and after being confined in barracks wore then deported An entry which was very highly commended was that of Mr R. G. ininn of the Christchurch ‘ Press,’ who forwarded as interview with Ralokovic, the violinist who visited New Zealand recently..
