MEDICAL SPECIALIST'S IDEAS Dr. Thomas Van dc Velde lately arrived in London from Locarno to escape for a while the couples who go from all parts’ of the world to ask him how to be nappy though married. Dr. Van de Velde, who is happy though married, was for many years director of the Gynaecological Clinic at Haarlem He gave up his post to establish international practice at Locarno for the treating of erring husbands and misunderstood wives. He has completed a trilogy on Ideal Marriage, a monumental piece of work which has’ been translated into' almost every language. ~ ■ A ‘ Daily Mail ’ correspondent called on the doctor to ask him to paint a picture of an ideal man and an .ideal woman. “ There is no such thing, he replied. “But,’.’ he said, “two people can become ideal in, marriage provided that the man asserts his superiority and the woman submits to it” “Women have become too masculine in recent years,” Dr Van de Velde said. “They do men’s work, try to dress like men, and indulge in athletics which are too strenuous for them. And man has ceased to be the paterfamilias. “The man is responsible for the foundation of happy marriages. He must show his authority. He must be the leader. And women must stick to the home and think of motherhood. The man must not let his wife have too much of her own way. Thai is the way to happy marriage, and only through happy marriage, can you get happy children,”
