DRAINAGE BOARD

SICK BENEFIT SOCIETY The annual meeting of the D.C.C. and Drainage Board Employees’ Sick Benefit Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Monday last, the president (Mr J. Jardine) presiding over a fair attendance of members, A large volume of correspondence was dealt with. Sick pay amounting to £lB7 10s 3d and death claims amounting to £2O were paid out during _ the last six months. The; president, in his address, touched on tho great amount of sickness and number of accidents for the recent term, and hoped for better px-os-pects for the future. Tho balance-sheet showed a profit of £275 11s 6d, which is £3l 14s 9d loss than the previous balance six months ago. The' auditor’s report congratulated the society on its position in view of the heavy drain on the funds this last term. The Secretary reported that since the society’s inception, lour and a-half years ago, it had paid out £1,091 0s 6d sick pay and £lls death claims—a total of £1,206 0s 6d. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr T. Hamel; vice-president, Mr W. Nelson; secre-tary-treasurer, Mr J. P. Rees; auditors, Messrs J. M‘Nary and W. Huston ; trustees, Messrs J. D. Corbett and J. Jardine; sick stewards—Mr W. Dunn (Central ward), Mr J, M‘Nab (North ward), Mr W. Nelson (Hill ward), and Mr J. Ellis (South ward); executive Messrs W. Dunn, C. M'Laren, J. M'Gregor, J. Corbett, J. Halford, .J. Moran, J. M‘Nab, D. Roughan, J. Ellis, W. Nelson, J. Jardine.
