PROTESTANT ALLIANCE Tho fortnightly mooting of the Triumph Lodge, No. 9, was hcld_ on Tiinrsday last in the lodgoroom Kensingtou Hall. The W.M., Bro. W: O’Neill, presided over a large attendance of members, and was ably assisted by a fu.ll staff of officers. The Sick Visitors’ Committee reported on its work, and claims were passed for payment. One now member was initiated into tho order, the ceremony being ably carried out by the W.M. f lic G. secretary (Bro. A. Hay), who had just returned from a visit to all the northern lodges, gave a brief account of his work, and also an account of his waiting upon the registrar of friendly societies in connection with \arious matters of special interest to the society He also conveyed the fraternal greetings from all the lodges which ho had visited to No. 9. Tho lodge was then adjourned for the purpose of holding a Scottish haggis night. An excellent programme was prepared by the Social Committee, as follows: —Piano solo, Mrs Kcrsley; Highland dance, Master Ramsay; humorous, Mr Abbot; Highland dance. Misses Baxter; song, Miss Dentford. The pipers for the evening wore Messrs Crichton and Fraser. The haggis was in true Scottish, iashiou played into the hall in full ceremony. Mr Davidson delivered tho address to haggis from the famous poet, Robert Burns. Supper was then served, after which dancing was indulged in till midTlic fortnightly meeting of the Valley True Blue Lodge, No. 11 was held in the Orange Hall, Leith street. 'There was a good attendance of members, including visitors from Loyal Excelsior Lodge, No. 41, and Triumph, No. 9. The lodge was opened by W.M. Bro. G. T. Austin, assisted by Chaplain Bro. J. W. Sutherland, I.P.M. Bro. H. B. Galland, and a full roll of junior officers. Two candidates were initiated, and three friends were proposed for membership. The Social Committee reported on several matters of interest, and intimated that a social would be held next meeting night. W.M. Bro. G. T. Austin conveyed tho thanks of tho lodge to the visitors. Bro. R. Bachop, Sec., Triumph, No. 9, and P.M. Bro. Jackson suitably responded. Tho lodge was then adjourned for tho purpose of holding a progressive euchre tournament, after which suppei was handed round. . Tho regular fortnightly meeting ot tho Loval Fxcelsior Lodge was held in tho lodge hall, Green Island on Wednesday, November 11. Tho meeting was opened hy W.M. Bro. A. D. Lindsay, assisted by Chap.' Bro. Christie and officers. Sick pay and accounts were passed for payment. W.M. Brp. O’Neill, officers, and members ot triumph Lodge, No. 9, paid an official visit and wore heartily welcomed. After the lodge business was concluded teams were picked from both lodges to play for the Euchre Challenge Shield. An hour’s play resulted in a draw. A further four games wore then played, and again Urn result was a draw. W.M. Bro. A. D. Lindsay, on behalf of No. 11, then offered to take tho .shield to No. 9 Lodge on their next night to decide who should hold the shield Ibis was accepted hy W.M. Bro. O’Neill. Tho lodge was then closed with supper. On the following Thursday the Green Island Lodge retained the shield by 11 games to 6.
