BAD FIRE AT SAW-MILL

[Per United Press Association.]

DARGAVILLE, November 24. Shortly after noon to-day a fire broke out in the DargaviJle Sawmilling Company’s mill in Victoria street. The brigade was soon on the job, but a gale was blowing behind the fire, and owing to tho distance the firemen had to tnJco water to the seat of the fire their efforts were not very effective. The milling department was practically destroyed; but the planing department, the railway engine shed, and other buildings "adjoining the mill were saved. The tire occurred at a particularly unfortunate time, as tho mill had just resumed full work after many months’ part-time work. A shipment of timber imd just left for Australia, and further orders for the same destination kept the mill employed for some months ahead. Large stocks of timber in the yards were untouched. The insurance is not available. The owners are Messrs Rope Brothers, trading under the name of the Dargaville Sawmilling Company, whose loss runs into several thousands sterling.
