WAITAKI V. HIGH SCHOOL VISITORS BATTING WELL The annual cricket matches between the first and second elevens of the Waitaki and Otago Boys’ High Schools were commenced at the local school grounds this morning. In both _ games the visitors batted first on fair wickets, and both teams showed good form. The seniors had hoisted 113 runs for two wickets at the luncheon adjournment at noon after two hours’ play, Kent collecting 54 not out, Smith 29 not out,'and Dick 23. Particular interest was attached to the match by the appearance of 11, D. Dick, whoso performances at Oamani have aroused the curiosity of. the Otago selectors. His display this morning was solid rather than brilliant, and the selectors will have to,see more of him before reaching a decision. He was unfortunate, however, in being dismissed in a rather unusual way. He glanced a ball to the wicket-keeper, who allowed it to pass on to the first slip’s face and then into the air to the second slip’s hands, which held the ball securely. The most impressive display was given by Kent, who played some really good shots. Both he aud Smith, however, were favoured _ with dropped catches. Otago’s bowling did not appear difficult, though more use might have been made of Saxton, whose slow leg breaks appeared to be the only difficult deliveries in the attack. Scores SENIOR MATCH.
