UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD FUNDS | The mayor (Mr 11.. si. Black) has re- j coived from local members of Parh'a- ■ menfc and others several replies to the Unemployment Committee’s appeal for assistance in the matter of obtaining extra funds for next week's work under Xo. 6 scheme. Replies have come from Sir Charles Statham, the Prime Minister (the Hon. G. TV. Forbes), the lion. TV. B. Taverner, and Messrs TV, Downie Stewart, A, la. Ansel I, and J. W. Munro. The gist of the answers is that members aro jointly going into the matter. Mr Forbes stated that ho is taking up tho committee’s representations with tho chairman of the Unemployment Board. Messrs Ansel! and Munro mention that Ihe Minister of Labour has also been -approached. ST. ANDREW STREET DEPOT Tile hulv volunteers at the Si. Andrew street depot aro still having a busv time, ami donations of all kinds, including 'fuel, are much needed. Tho following gifts aro acknowledged with thanks:— H. J. Elliott, meat; Irvine and Stevenson, 2501 b brawn; anon., corned beef; Mrs E. Thcomm, nine bags coal; - Mrs Cos. hag- Hour; St. Clair ladies, bag iloiir; Mrs D. K. White, jam; Mrs Hart, honey; Kindergarten Association, cakes; “anon,” sausages (weekly, donation) : Mrs TV. R. Hudson, one sheep; Mr King, St. Kilda, 20lb meat; “a friend,” jam; .Mrs AL, jam; Mrs Barningham, sugar; .Mr Hook’s depot, Mornington, groceries; Mr Aircy’s depot, Arthur street, groceries; Mr Mowaf.s depot, X.E.V... groceries; Barton's, one sheep. ° Messrs M. Stevenson Ltd. have kindly o-i veil the use of a cart and horse for delivering wood, which is taken from Ross Creek and out up free by Mr Watson’s employees, King street, with tho assistance of some of the unemployed, wlm are anxious to do something to help in some way. Mr Love, carrier (St. Kilda), has also kindly offered to do any carting required from- that district. Supplies of potatoes aro now very short, and donations of those would he most acceptable. POUND-A-WEEK SCHEME ARTHUR STREET AND SURR 0 U NDING STREETS. The first collection by the Arthur Street School hoys was made last Saturday morning and a. very splendid response was made. Cargill street and London street were inadvertently missed, hut these will be attended !■« lhis Saturday. • Air C Lamb, carrier (Mornington', lias kindly offered to convey the goods from the local depots to tho St. Andrew street depot each week. MUSSELBURGH RISE AND TAINUI DISTRICTS. A very enthusiastic meeting of residents of these districts was hold at tiic residence of .Mrs R. 11. Stevenson, Alton avenue, on Tuesday afternoon. The mayoress (Airs R. S. Black) presided. A commitec was formed to canvass the above districts to see win; would be willing to give a pound of some sort of groceries each week, and Mrs Stevenson kindly consented to act ns secretary. Tho collecting of the goods . was left in tho hands of Mrs Stevenson, Local depots have been arranged at the following stores:— Airs Scun ’s, Mr Bower’s, Mrs Young’s, and Mr Jamieson’s. Mr Lipport, carrier, has kindly offered to the goods and convey them to St. Andrew street depot. GOODS SPECIALLY REQUIRED. ■When giving the pound of groceries cadi week, the depot would be glad if residents, as far as possible, would donate any of the following:—Flour, sugar, tea, butter, rice, sago, cocoa, barley, golden syrup, or jam; also vegetables. A largely-attended meeting of the unemployed to-night considered the question of affiliating with the re-cently-formed Dominion Unemployment Union, and decided bj 50 votes to 15 not to have anything to do with it.
