FORBURY SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Mr Floury presided .it the meeting of the Forbury School Committee. The school report was received from the head master The roll stands at 720, average attendance for the month of •Inly -655. The attendance is still suffering. from the disorganisation, occasioned by cases of fever contacts and the , prevalence of colds. Term examinations are now in progress, the result so far being quite gratifying and showing substantial progress. Efforts to raise funds during the past ' month have met with gratifying results* The committee gave permission for the band to attend the juvenile lodge meeting at Kensington on the Bth inst., also thb church parade on Sunday next with the Church Lads’ Brigade at Caversham. : A letter from the . Otago Education Board was read in reply to the one sent, in regard to the school’s doctor inspecting the, children against the wishes of the parents. The board pointed out that the Health Act states that any such officer may at all reasonable times cuter any public school and examine children attending the school. The Act makes no provision for exemption, and the matter is therefore one for the doctor’s discretion. A motion was moved and carried that the Forbury School Committee , lace on record the appreciation, of the efforts of. the head master and his staff in connection with the concert held, Tliis was carried unanimously. During 'the month the members _ if the Otago Education Board paid a visit to the school and have ordered several repairs, etc., to he carried out. The response, from the householders in regard to the school funds (which a social committee has been appointed to attend to) is gratifying. During these hard times it is wonderful to see such a great deal of interest taken to help the committee, and every member expressed appreciation. There are several concerts to bo put on during the year. The school band is making good headway, but owing to the old boys being away the hand cannot give of its best. It is hoped that all the past boys will turn up and help this little band in all its efforts. It has been booked up by the South Dunedin Shopkeepers’ Association to play on Friday nights in th« South Dunedin shopping centre.
