THE PACIFIC TRADE IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, August 3. Tho ‘ Sun’s ’ correspondent at Vancouver cables, with regard to tho Wellington announcement that tho Canadian Pacific Railway Company is taking a loading interest in the CanadianAustralasian Line, that important developments may come during the next few years. The Empress liners in tho trade between Vancouver and tho Orient are doing very satisfactory business,. in direct contrast to tho falling off ot trade and the cutting of rates which arc prevalent on tho Atlantic, There may no no changes in the service from Vancouver to Sydney for several months, but eventually the intention is to install greatly improved ships and to double the number of sailings in order to take full advantage of the improvement in trade under tho new treaty ; in short, to build faster and bettor communications across the Pacific, ami perhaps circle the Pacific with special sailings from Vancouver to New Zealand, Australia, Manila, and the Orient.
PRESENT SERVICE TO BE CONTINUED
From inquiries made we understand that the message received from Van- ) couver last evening to the effect that the Niagara and the Aorangi are to run between San Francisco and Australia is not correct. The whole posi lion, we are informed, is that the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, a large and wealthy organisation, is to lake a share of the trade, and link uo its various routes, no doubt with n view to feeding its railways. The service will ho run as heretofore—Van couvcr, Honolulu, Suva, Auckland, and Sydney. i
