REMOVAL OF RESTRICTIONS OPERATIONS RESUMED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, August 5. Although the restrictions will not bo removed till to-morrow, many of the banks resumed operations to-day, and the amounts paid in exceeded tho withdrawals. The Chancellor (Dr Brueuing), in a broadcast speech to-night, indicated that the banks would bo brought under the control of the Government, and ho declared that the emergency measures Had nothing to do with inflation. Depositors need not be afraid that J 'ioy would lose their hard-earned savings. ALL QUIET. BERLIN, August 5 (Received August 6, at 10 a.m.) Anxiety as to how the public would behave at the reopening ot the banks was quickly dispelled. There was not a semblance of panic. (Received August 6, at 11 a.m.) An unexpected fall of sterling on tho foreign exchange this morning was followed by a sharp rally in the afternoon. Tho fall was attributed by tho Press to renewed uneasiness in Paris regarding the German situation However, according to to-day’s advices from Berlin business attending the reopening of the banks was norma), and tne general reports reassuring.
