CHRISTCHURCH HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS
The first annual dinner of the Christchurch High School Old Boys’ Association, Dunedin Branch, was held in the Somerset Lounge last evening, Mr H. Chapman presiding, and was a most successful function. A number of visitors were present, representing other associations. After a silent tribute to the memory of “ our late head master, Mr C. E. Sevan Brown, ’ Mr W F. Alexander gave some recollections of the revered ex-principal and impressions of the recent jubilee celebrations, and the toast list was as follows The School,” proposed by Dr C. E. Kerens, responded to by Mr T J L. Rantin: “School Athletics and Sport,” proposed by Mr C. L. Shepard, responded to by Mr O. W. Owles: “Kindred Associations and Our Visitors.” proposed by Dr C. S. Murray responded to by Mr E. E. Clowes (chairman Waitaki Old Boys’ Association). Mi W. Earnshaw (chairman Christ’s College Association), Mr R H Cabot (vice-president T maru Association), and Mr J. M. Fraser (president Otago Old Boys’ Association). The school song was sung by all present, followed by the ‘ Stein Song ’ and * Happy Days Are Her© Again.’ Mr G. Stuart Thomson and Mr Owles contributed songs, Mr Hunter gave a recitation, and Mr Chapman and Mr Hunter provided a scene from a play. A suggestion that there should be, once a year, a combined gathering of all the associations, to foster interest in the secondary schools, was well received, and will bo considered by them severally* 1
