THRILLING ACT FOR REGENT
VAUDEVILLE AND OUTSTANDING FILM On Friday next the Regent Theatre will present an outstanding vaudeville act. It is ‘ Tho Skating Aviators,’ a really dare-devil performance concerning which tho most glowing reports have come to hand since its appearance in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. In Auckland tho critics described it as the most thrilling and sensational turn ever brought to this country, and in Christchurch, whore the pair are at present holding audiences breathless at the Theatre Royal, tho praise is in every way as high. Tho performers do the most amazing feats while moving at a terrific speed on a platform over 6ft high and only 10ft square. Apart from this sensational turn, George Bancroft will appear in what has been described as his most effective picture, ‘ Scandal Sheet,’ the talc of an unscrupulous and ruthless newspaper man. * Scandal Sheet ’ is the story of a managing editor whoso false creed proves to ho his own undoing. In his daily work as tho boss of the city room lie operates on tho theory that “ news is news, and we’ll print it no matter whom it may hurt.” When tho town banker (Clive Brook) asks Bancroft to withhold publication in his paper of a story concerning the financial status of his bank, Bancroft tells him that nothing can prevent him from spreading the yarn. Since the bank is really in, a sound condition, the publication of tho story will do more harm than good, hut Bancroft has a hunch that Brook-is sneaking out of town, and lie surmises that there is something crooked afoot. In reality Brook is planning to elope with Kay Francis, Bancroft’s charming wife. Photographers sent by Bancroft to Brook’s home to take surprise pictures of Brook’s flight from town get snapshots of Brook and the editor’s wife -in a compromising embrace. But that doesn’t deter Bancroft from his purpose. He publishes tho story of his wife’s faithlessness and brings about his own I’iiin, losing his prestige and his job. Here is a picture that must ho seen, lb has all the desired elements of a complete and satisfying cinema. There is comedy, action, drama. And above all there is the superb character acting of the star and the faultless support of those two favourites, Miss Francis and Afr Brook. Tho box plans arc at Tho .Bristol and tho theatre.
