KIWI RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Kiwi Defence Rifle Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. last night. There was a good muster of members, and Mr F. J. Silvias (president) was in the chair. Tho annual report thanked the defence authorities for permitting tho use of tho Pelichet Bay military range in conjunction with the Dunedin Defence Rifle Club. Tho attendance of members during the year had been excellent, and a very pleasing feature had been the influx of Territorials into tho club. Doubtless this was duo to the encouragement given to them by the defence authorities in the free issue of rifles and ammunition, and the hope was expressed that they would continue the practice. All the Territorials had shown promise of becoming excellent marksmen. It was pleasing to note that a member of the club, Hireman. H. Whitehead, won the B grade championship. Tho donation of a silver cup by Mr H. W. Huntly was acknowledged. This trophy was allotted to tho President’s Match, and will be retained by the winner for twelve months. Gratitude was also expressed to other donors of prizes, as it was realised that they were in that way helping to produce first-class marksmen Thanks were also due to the markers for their work during tho year. The Press steward, Rifleman F. W. Clayton, was thanked. Through the removal of Mr Silvius to Wellington the club was losing a president who, during the years that ho had filled that office, bad performed excellent work for the promotion of ride shooting, and had served on the executive of the N.11.A. The balance-sheet showed that- the receipts for the year were £132 2s 3d, and the expenditure had been £124 4s 3d, which left a credit balance of £8 18s. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Regret was expressed at losing the services of Mr Silvius, and those present expressed the wish that good fortune would follow him to his new home. —Mr Silvius thanked the members for their good wishes.
