Miss Joan Oram, who is visiting Wellington, is tho guest of her aunt, Mrs Briton Smith, Kclburn.
Mrs Gill, who has been the guest of Mrs Jordan, Dunottar, loft with her two children on Tuesday for Havelock North.

Mrs Landreth and Miss Catherine Landroth leave to-morrow morning for Christchurch. After. spending a few days there Miss Landroth will go on to Wellington to connect with the Makura on her return to Ame-ica.

The engagement is announced of Winsome, onlv daughter of. Mr and - Mrs F. Milner (Waitaki Boys’ High School), to Harold, only son of the late Mr C. E. Morris an -1 Mrs Morris, of Napier, formerly of Scaly street, Timaru. The sewing circle which was farmed by members of the Otago Women’s Club, and which has been working on Wednesdays for the past seven weeks, has made a very welcome contribution to the Dowling street depot. Over 650 garments, all warm and comfortable, including many knitted ones for children, have been handed in. The circle has now decided to close down operations.
Some seventy members of the Dunedin branch of the New Zealand Federation of University W omen assembled on Friday evening at Arcbcrfield College to hear an interesting talk given by Miss Landreth, of Rutger’s University, New Jersey, on prekindergarten school work. The president (Dr Siodcbcrg-MTvinnon) occupied the chair and introduced the speaker. Following the talk, Miss Sodden read a letter from Mrs Cloghorn, who represented the New Zealand Federation of Women at the conference held recently at Boston, tolling of her experiences there. Miss Hethorington (inspector of secondary schools), of Wellington, who is at present in Dunedin, was a specially invited guest. Supper and social chat concluded the eyening.
Miss N-. M. Scanlan, the New Zealand writer, was one of the guests of honour at the .nine dinner of the P.E.N. Club, the international association of authors, whoso president is Mr John Galsworthy (states a London correspondent). Sir _ John Foster Fraser was in the chair. Ho referred to Miss Seanlan’s novel, and then spoke of some of his own experiences in the dominion. On the next evening -a meeting of the International Committee of the P.E.N. Club was held, at which members were .present from Greece, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Poland, France, Hungary, South Africa, and India. Mr ’ Galsworthy was in the chair, and Miss Scanlan was asked to ho present.
