TAIERI RIVER TRUST

MONTHLY MELTING The Taieri River Trust held its monthly meeting at Mosgiel yesterday. Mr T. M. Ball presided, the others present being Messrs Walter Blackie, R. A. Kempshell, A. Moore, F, Johnson, J, M'Kenzie, and R. T. Sadd. REPORTS. The inspector reported that the following works had been carried out during tho month: —Tho drain from BremneVs road to Patrick’s pump had been cleaned, and later cleaning was continued to Hackett’s. Part of the dram to Cameron’s had also been attended to. Maungatua drain had been cleaned from Leo Creek to Loch Ascog, and also part of tho drain through Kcmpshell’s to-Scott’s. The banks and boxes had been attended to, and left in good order. Pumping hours had totalled 100 for the month.—Adopted. The Works Committee reported as follows After inspecting Duck Creek area, it had been decided not to proceed with tho new drain, the estimated cost being too great. Regarding W. M. Marshall’s drain, it had been decided that if the settlers concerned would fence the drain the trust would carry out the work. It had been decided to clean out J. Marshall’s drain, which had now been completed. The west bank of the river had been inspected, and it had been decided that the work of cutting tho willows there he proceeded with, and that the Works Committee consider tho removal and sale of same before next meeting. CORRESPONDENCE.

Mr 11. Harvey, Outram, drew attention to water lying on his property.—■ Referred to tho inspector for attention.

Mr John Young, Ochtcrtyre, Allanton, wrote pointing out the bad state of the drain through-the property occupied by Air Charles Campbell, and asking that pipes be supplied for a crossing over this ditch.—The trust decided to attend to the drain; Air Young to ho informed that if ho supplied the pipes the trust would put them in. Mr W. J. Marshall, Berwick, wrote asking the trust to honour its agreement with respect to levelling down spoil on the bank at his property.—The trust decided that a small sum bo voted to Air Marshall to do the work, provided it bo done before the end of two months, and that the bank be not lowered below the original level. The clerk of the Taieri County Council wrote, advising the trust that the council raised no objection in reference to the trust’s intention to proceed with legislation to vest tho lake reserves in the trust. —Received.

Mr Fraser, Berwick, on behalf of the settlers concerned, wrote asking that tho channel coming down under tho bridge at Petrie’s and then into the contour channel bo deepened and widened under the No. 5 unemployment scheme.—To bo done when men aro available.

Mrs Harris, Leo Side, Maungatua. asked that drainage to the lagoon should receive attention, so that tho drains on her own property might bo cleaned.—To bo attended to as soon as possible. Tim Secretary of tho Treasury, Wellington, wrote drawing the trust’s attention to tho Local Authorities Loan (Rate of Interest) Bill, and to a reduction of i per cent, in that connection.—Received.

Air Allan Alann, Alaungatua, applied for tho drain to he cleaned along Aliller’s road from Leo Creek to Kirk’s drain. —Work to he supervised by the Works Committee. GENERAL.

Mr John Miller waited on tho trust in regard to some matters which had been enumerated in a letter sent by him to tho trust—viz., that tho box on tho Leo Creek at Thomson’s old bridge bo lowered; that a box be inserted in the north bank of the contour channel to allow water which gathered behind tho bank to get away: and that a curved elbow be put on tne ends of the pipes carrying water from the channel to the fields below to prevent them from silting up.—Tho first request was granted conditional on the trust being able to utilise some left-over pipes; tho other matters to receive attention when opportunity offered.
