NEW POLITICAL PARTY.

TO THE EDITOII. ‘ Sir,— 1 A Plea for a New Party ’ was the title over a letter signed by “ New Party,” in Tuesday's paper. It is rather surprising that “ New Party,” if he is at all interested in politics, did not read in your paper a paragraph appearing a little over a week ago, stating that a new party Avas formed in Dunedin, and if 1 remember rightly, was called tho National Democratic Party, if the organisation is truly attempting to propound sound democratic principles then its success is assured. The time is ripe to bring back into tho political arena the policy, courage, and spirit of the late Richard Seddon. He was a true democrat, and was not afraid to voice his opihions and formulate legislation for the welfare of tho masses. Much of the past legislation that appears upon the Statute Books that has been and is for the progress and benefit of tho people, was put there by Mr Seddon. If this Democratic Party will do tho same I am sure tho majority of tho voters in this dominion will give it united support. Mr Howard, M.P. for Christchurch South, jocularly referred in tho House to tho work and worth of tho “ farmer Premier,” “ but ho was still a fanner, with a fanner’s outlook.” Truly this

country is in dire need of a sound commercial leader, with the commercial out. look . Who will ho be? Will the Democratic Party bring out men ot business ability and standingr Wo urge upon it to do so. I shaii be much interested to know sornetmng of tho policy of this new movement. If it is going to bo a power at ah, why not let the public know its views? A public meeting would be very welcome at this time, as the business and commercial interests of this country are deeply concerned at the instability of the present Government. Chambers of commerce and other organisations have been urging a fusion of the lioionn and United Parties, but will that give us stability!' w'c know to our sorrow how Mr Coates’s party was routed at the lust election, and it is quite evident Mr Forbes’s party is nearing tho same end There must be many dissafished members in both panics,’ wild, I am certain, would link up with true democracy, without tho slightest fear of being dubbed “ turncoats.” With the political dissatisfaction among the masses, it is time something definite was done to put the country on a sound, progressive footing. Get a move on. National Democrats, and let us have your policy, that wo may judge tho wisdom of your party. I am, etc.. Interested. July 15,
