Mr James Nimmo left this morning on a business trip to Blenheim and Wellington. Mr A. C. Ross came from Invercargill by train this morning and will remain in Dunedin till the end of tho week. Mr G. Greig, statioumaster at Dunedin since last July, is one of the railway officers who retires as a result of the finance economising. Wednesday next is to be his last day on duty. Mr A. M. G. Christie, assistant stationmaster, is to take up tho duties temporarily. At tlxe annual meeting of the Gaelio Society of New Zealand, held last evening, ■Mr Roderick Mackenzie was reelected chief, and Messrs T. Ritchie,R. M'Lean, Alexander M'Lachlan, Colin Macdonald, and Angus M'lvor chieftains.

Mr A. T. Donnelly, Crown Prosecutor, of Chrisjfcchurch, and of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, will leave for England by the Tamaroa on Wednesday next. He will return about the end of September. The cause of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals advertising for an inspector Mr John Craig is resigning and going to Sydney. Mr Craig has had a long term of faithful, and discreet service, and Otago will miss him. An ardent chess player and a friend of all club members, Mr G. D. Wright (whose recent accident at Tapanui prevented his attendance at the annual meeting of the Otago Chess Club last night) was missed by those present. The secretary acting in his place" (Mr D. A Press Association cable message from' London states that the Grand Lodge of England has appointed Lord Stonehaven Past Senior Grand Warden, and Messrs C. T. Major and G.W. Jack (of New Zealand) Past Junior Grand Deacons. The Hon. G. M. Thomson .returned to Dunedin from Wellington last night. _ - With the abolition of the office of South Island divisional superintendent, which took effect as from last Monday, the retirement takes place of Mr H. Green, assistant divisional superintendent. Mr Green, who will not actually leave the service until May 16, has been connected with the Railways for thirty-eight years. He began his career on the West Coast in the employ of the old New Zealand Midland Railway Company in March, 1394. Fourteen months later the Government took over the company, and Mr Green was transferred to the staff of tho New Zealand Railways. He remained on the West Coast for a further two years, and then in, 1897 was transferred to the Dunedin district, where he was statioumaster at various places; He was next transferred to Auckland as relieving officer, and then in April, 1910, ho came back to the South Island as statioumaster, first’ at Dunsandcl and later at several stations in- the Dunedin district. In 1913 he became clerk in the Dunedin booking office, and remained there until. 1920, .then being transferred to Invercargill as traiii-runuing officer. Eighteen months later he returned to Dunedin as trainrunning officer, and in 1924 was appointed chief clerk in the sub-manager’s office. In March, 1925, ho was given the post of assistant traffic manager at Dunedin, and in May, 1926,’ he was transferred to his present position of assistant divisional superintendent for South Island.—Christchurch correspondent.
