MEETING OF BOARD Tlio monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of tho Y.M.C.A. was held last night. Sir J. L. Salmond presided, and tho following members were present:—Messrs C. J. Darracott, J. M‘Ara, J. B. Waters, H. B. West, W. J, Brown, N. Mollison, J. 11. .Fairbairn, D. K. Macdonald, W. 11. Smith, Rev. W. A. Hamblctt, and Mr W. Wallace (secretary). Tho undermentioned, wore re-elected in office for the ensuing year:—President, Mr J. L Salmond; vice-presi-dents—Messrs H K. Wilkinson, C. J. Darracott, J. B. Waters, J. M’Ara; hon. treasurer, Mr C. J Darracott. Mr M. C. Henderson was unanimously appointed to tho Board of Directors. The senior report showed that com pletc preparation had been made du.r ing March to begin tho season’s work, commencing in April, both .in the residential department and the Vikings’ Club.

Residents’ services had been con ducted during the month as usual, tho attendance averaging twenty-fom per meeting. Tho speakers were: Rev. T. AL Richards (Wellington), Rev. I' J. Shaw ■ (Christchurch), Air George E. Franklin, J.F. (Ashburton), Rev. L. R. Lochore, Rev. J. Richards. Tho membership of the Optimists’ Club now reached a total of forty-four. The attendance at the luncheons had averaged thirty-nine. Tho following gentlemen were the speakers:—Air E. G. Olson (subject, ‘The Aero Club), Air G. Coley (‘Personal Experiences at Napier Earthquake’), Air J. AL Thompson ('Canada and tho Empire ’). Under tho convcnorsliip of Airs Chapman, a body of Y.M.C.A. workers collected the sum of LoO 11s 6d for tho returned, soldiers’ fund on Poppy Day. In presenting tho monthly report tho Physical Director stated that the month as usual had been the starting off period for most of tho regular classes. As is usually the experience, tho climatic conditions, together with tlic continuation still of tho various summer season outdoor activities, are not conducive to very largo attendances for indoor programmes However, it is quite satisfactory to report that up to tho present, the total enrolments for all sections is up to its usual strength for this time of tho year. Tho following were the enrolments in the various classes that have resumed :—Business men 32, seniors 50, business boys 30, High School boys 31, Technical School boys 20, primary school boys 20, hoys (under twelve) 20, Indies' 35, married ladies 10, girls (under fifteen) 20, girls (undoi twelve) 10; total 284. Forty-nine class sessions were held, and tho total attendance was 865.

Tho senior leaders are again on the job, meeting weekly and accepting some responsibility on the floor on tho men’s class nights. With the exception of one addition tho personnel ot tho corps remains tho same as that ol tho previous year. Arrangements are almost in hand lor again getting together the basketball enthusiasts with the object ol forming teams for competition purposes for tho forthcoming season. The Association Football Chit) will he holding its annual mooting at an early date. 'The boys’ division was reopened at tho beginning of the month. The numbers arc this .year comparatively small, as the prevailing financial depression has hit many members of the division. The association realises this, and is doing its utmost to make it possible for all its old members to return, whether hard pressed or not. A very full programme has been arranged for tho year, and the varied activities arc getting _ under way. At present tho division is faced with a shortage of young men to act as leaders, but it is hoped that those will bo forthcoming ’ore long. In addition to evening activities tho association has once again resumed the mid-day lunch club It is possible to procure lunch and drinks at tho lunch buffet, while, table games may be played during tho rest of the short period.
