RUGBY O.R.F.U. COMMITTEE Last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union, presided over by Mr S. G. St.yche, considered a report from a subcommittee which waited on the principal of the Training College on the subject of transfers of players from other clubs to the Training College Club, Mr W. Allan, on behalf of the subcommittee, said that, the main object of waiting on the principal was to ascertain if any footballer who neglected to apply for a transfer to the Training College Club suffered in any way, and especially in regard to grading marks. The principal very strongly denied that there was any victimisation in the matter of grading marks, and the committee accepted tlie denial. On the other hand, ho admitted that a footballer would suffer in one respect, in that ho could not win his college colours unless he played in one or other of the college winter games, football or hockey. He suggested that it might be a disadvantage to them in applying for a position subsequently, but the obvious answer was that it would be a greater advantage if a player were a senior footballer or had represented his province. The committee had pointed out to the principal the difficulties in dealing with transfers arising out of tho rules. Tho principal was satisfied ho could not expect a senior player to be transferred to a Junior team, but he claimed that a player; playing tor tho junior team of a senior club had a right to play for the college. If any difficulty arose about the transfer of such a player lie thought the hardship clause should apply. Tho principal thought some of them would rather remain out of football than not play for the college team. There was only one team in the college now, and difficulty was experienced in keeping it going. Mr Allan said he thought the union should do all it could to foster Rugby at the cpllege. Mr D. M. Stuart said that the subcommittee suggested that a clause might be inserted in the rules whereby it probationer teacher, who, on leaving a secondary school played for one of the clubs, might transfer to Training College without six months' notice. ' It was decided to write to the pnncipal of the Training College stating that the matter would be brought before the annual meeting of the union with a view to seeing if some ride could bo devised to meet the case of Training College students.
