Mr and Mrs H. Mandeno and Miss Peggy Mandeno have returned from Hanmer. Miss Dorothy Roberts, who is in town for a few days, is the guest of Mrs "Wiliams, High street. Smith, of Port Chalmers, has returned to her homo at Brooklyn, Wellington. The engagement is. announced of Evelyn Ellen, third daughter of Air H. Al'Fectors, Balclutha, to Vernon' Henry, eldest son of Air and Mrs F. Y. Milnes, St. Leonards. Aliss Sybil Stavlcy, Royal Terrace, has returned from the north.

Mrs D. A. Gibb, who has been tho guest of her parents, Mr ami Mrs G. D. Beale, Munro street, has returned to Wellington to join her husband, who is arriving by the Alonowai on Monday. Mr and Mrs F. C. Taylor have returned from a trip to the West Coast, and Mrs Taylor left on Friday for “Westwood.’’ Mr and Mrs A. Melville have returned from Timarn. Airs Garrett and her three daughters from Auckland have joined Mr Garrett in Dunedin, where they will in future reside. Sir James and Lady Allen, Miss Kona Allen, and Mr Charles Allen are spending a short holiday at Timarn. Mrs Kike, of Auckland, is tho guest of Mrs J. Milne, High street. Miss Allen has returned to Christchurch. On Thursday afternoon tho president (Lady Ferguson) and members of the Otago Women’s Club held an “at homo ” in the club rooms in honour of tier Excellency Lady ; Bledisloe. Her Excellency, who was ' accompanied by the mayoress, wore a black silk frock and long coat with a shoulder cape and collar and cuffs of white fur. Lady Ferguson, who was attired in a threepiece suit of rose beige and lemon, with a wide-brimmed hat to tone, in a short speech welcomed Her Excellency, ou behalf ol the club members, to which Lady Bledisloe charmingly replied. The members present wore then presented to Her Excellency, and tea followed in tho dining room, where the tables were gay with bowls of roses. Tho lounge looked very beautiful, the Dora] decorations of blue delphiniums and orange poppies suiting admirably tho colour scheme of the room.
