WELLINGTON WOOL SALE

RIGID LIMITS FIRM ON DECEMBER RATES [Per United Press Association.] WFBLL'sGTOX, January 7. The abnormal state of tbo wool market was clearly rolleeted by the second Wellington sale of the season this morning. That growers are reluctant to meet the market was shown by tho fact that the total catalogue of 19,00(1 bales was reduced by withdrawals to 18,000 odd bales, as against an offering of over 22,000 bales at the January sale of last year and the limit of 00,000 bales fixed by the New Zealand Wool Committee lor to-day’s offering. Good clearances were made of the wool actually offered, but buyers were operating within very rigid limits. Barely four hours suiheecl for the sale, and it was but seldom that bids of 7d or oyer were hoard. For the most part bidding was well spread and extremely active, but there were periods when the buying dragged noticeably, many lots going down to single bids. An interesting feature of the sale was the activity of Bradford buyers, who held up prices except in the lower grade. The Continental sections, especially Germany, were much less in evidence than at the previous sale, and it was clear that they were working cm reduced limits. America and Japan bought freely in active competition for super, eross-breds. Taken as a whole, the market was firm on December rates for good to super, sorts, but ordinary eross-breds were Billy id and at times id down. The range of prices was as follows; Doc. 8. Jan. 7.
