MAGNIFICENT GIFT. [Pan TTxited Press Association.] , AUCKLAND, January S. A year ago Mr F. S. Potter, of Auckland,' provided land and cottages at Pan mure for the accommodation of aged Freemasons and their w;ives, and presented the Grand Masonic Lodge witli a property at Papakura. This ho has now endowed with assets valued a + approximately £50,265 for the establishment of homes for boys, under tlio con trol of the Grand Lodge. It is provided that the home shall bo for tho orphan sons of Freemasons, but if sufficient arc not available bo t vs of nonMasonic parents may quality for admission. The property consists of nine acres, and the assets with which it is now endowed include a business block in Queen street close to the Town Hall, 1,900 acres of farm lands, also incomeproducing assets returning about £2,000 •per annum. DEAD IN BED. A greengrocer, George William Gunn, aged about fifty-eight, a widower with two children, was found dead in bed at his residence at Waipnkur.au under circumstances suggesting poisoning A small pill box was found in the grate ot IIM fireplace marked “Poison” and containing traces of a crystallised powder.
