FRIDAY, DECEMBER ID. (Before Mr 11. W. Bundle, S.M.) INTOXICATED MOTORIST. “He was helplessly drunk,” said Souior-sorgeant Quartermaiu of Clinton Travis, a young man who pleaded guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car. Travis was found at 3.30 yesterday morning asleep in Ins car, which was parked at the corner of Water street and Police street. Mr E. J Anderson, who appeared on behalf of Travis, said that ho was only twenty-one years of age. Ho had had a long day travelling in a closed car, but had enough sense, when ho felt sleepy and dizzy, to park the car at the corner. He been in custody and had learnt his lesson.

Travis was fined £lO. His license was cancelled, and ho was prohibited from driving for twelve months. PERMITTING DRUNKENNESS.

On Michael Kean (Mr Hanlon, K.C.) pleading guilty to permitting drunkenness on licensed premises, charges of supplying an intoxicated person with liquor against Thomas Kean and Michael Kean were withdrawn. Senior-sergeant Quartermaiu said a drunk woman and a man were found in a back room at defendant’s hotel. The woman was arrested. Thomas Kean, the barman, had stated that ho told the woman to leave, the hotel, but he had not taken any steps to eject her. Mr Hanlon described the charge as being venial. Before he left for the show Michael Kean had prevented the woman from entering the premises, hut she had obtained .admission by a side door. Alfred Joseph Osmond was charged with _ carrying more than two persons on his motor cycle and also refusing to give his name and address to the inspector Ho was convicted and discharged on the first charge, and fined 40s and costs on the second. Alfred Ernest Townsend pleaded guilty to a charge of using his premises for the sale of ico cream without a permit, and was fined 5s and cosf s.
