I _— NATIONAL MUTUAL LIFE ASSOCIATION. Now policies written by the association for the year ended September 30, 1930, numbered 21,052, assuring £9,201,023. Tbo total income for the year was £4,983,877, which included £3,244,470 for premiums and £1,739,401 (after deduction of rates and taxes amounting to £155,843) for interest. Tho total amount paid to policyholders or their representatives during the year was £2,559,111. The total assurances in force at j ho. end of the year amounted to £85,102,725, and the assurance fund amounted to £33,521,387. ’TARANAKI OILFIELDS. A report issued by Taranaki (N.Z.) Oilfields for the week ended December 13 states: “ Waitangi No. 1 well; In order to make 22in casing more secure it was necessary to place an additional quantitv of cement. Now waiting lor this to set. Expect to start drilling for 15]in diameter casing December 17.” N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE COMPANY. The annual report of the directors of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd. shows that alter paying interest on tho first r*’id second mortgage debenture stocks, making provision for bad and doubtful debts and other contingencies, there remains a balance of £76.550 11s 3d on the year’s working. To this is added the amount brought forward Irom last year (£58.412 3s 3d), making a total of £134,902 14s Cd. The interim dividends of 2] per cent, on tbo 5 per cent, cumulative preference stock. 2 per cent, on the ordinary slock, and dividends for twelve months on the 6] per cent, cumulative second preference stock absorbed £77.500, leaving a balance of £57,462 14s Gd. From this the directors recommend a final dividend of 2] per cent, on the 5 per cent, cumulative pro fere noa (less 2s in the £ income tax), £25,000. and a final dividend of 2 per cent, (less 2s in tho £ income tax), £20,000. This accounts for £45,000. leaving £12,462 14s 6d to be carried forward.
