WHIPPET NOTES

[By Remind.] Dunedin enthusiasts have nominated liberally for the Southland .Meeting. .Messrs' Aiteheson, Tanner, Reed, and Brice are making the trip. J. Mitchell lias a good pup in Major Doon. The Captain Doon—Cinderella puppy ran a great race in the puppy event, but had to do his best to stall off a strong challenge by Happy Days. The latter is above the average and in every start has reached the final. The most improved whippet running at present is the fashionably-bred Pepper Junior. Since being taken over by Mrs J. Donaldson this pup has improved wonderfully, and is sure to raise more flags. Erick Shoed’s little pup Colleen Doon is, a freak, and’ although the smallest and youngest whippet racing, she can more than hold her own, and il was a treat to see the determined run she made to land first past the post in the puppy race. Jack ‘Goodman has the miniature Georgette looking a picture. If this slut was confined to her class she would more than pay her way. Jim Douglas’s win in the Cup was most popular. Lady he Good is one ol Dunedin’s best whippets, but usually just failed to salute the judge. Jim had her in rare fettle, and the slut just had enough in reserve to stall off a strong challenge from the fastfinishing Wild'Thyme. The latter slut is a credit to her trainer, Jfob Brown, whose dogs arc always turned out iu rare condition. Bob Aiteheson is still dogged by bad luck. That good dog Pliar Lap has gone off in condition, but with such a good pup as Black Duke to represent him Bob should soon be saluting the judge. The local champion, Tasman Flight, is still in a class of his own. He conceded up to 19yds in 150yds and had no trouble in winning. The best pup so far bred in Dnnedi ‘ is Fred Tanner’s Great Hope. It had no trouble in annexing the Dfinedin Cup in the best field that lias so far faced the starter locally. It must be gratifying to Mr Bert Ainge, wbo bred Great Hope, to see this pup developing into a champion.
