ORGAN RECITAL
I There is no doubt that the installation of a municipal organ is proving a great boom to Dunedin music lovers, and, as is usually the case, thro was a largo and appreciative audience at Dr V. E. Galway’s recital last night. A notable programme was presented, many of the numbers requiring extreme skill and delicacy of touch. Dr Galway ojamed the recital with a compelling rendering of ‘ Trumpet Voluntary ’ (Purcell). The rounded magnificence of tho whole piece was interpreted in an artistic manner, and the audience was dearly delighted. Perhaps nothing finer was heard than the ‘overture to ‘ Tannhauscr ’ (Wagner), which, as a final treat, was kept until tlio end of the programme. Into this impressive number Dr Galway introduced all the understanding and artistry at his command, and it is no exaggeration to say that his effort was nothing short of a triumph. Mrs H. C. Campbell won distinction in her pianoforte solo, ‘ Concerto in A minor ’ (Schumann), a thoroughly enjoyable feature which was given in three movements. Accora’ panied by Dr Galway on the organ, she gave an' extremely tasteful performance, many of tho difficult passages being brilliantly executed. The organist’s accompaniment was played with admirable understanding. After being warmly recalled Mrs Campbell was j presented with several handsome bouquets. Further attractions included in tho organ recital were Bach’s choral | prelude ‘“Sleepers Awake,’ Guilmaut’s j • Offevtoire on Christmas Thornes,’ Wolstcnbolme’s ‘ Tho Seraph’s Strain,’ I and ‘ Berceuse ’ (Jarnfelt). ;
