SUNDAY SERVICES

At First Church the Rev. Alien Stevely will preach in the morning on ‘ The Fruit of the Spirit (6), Goodness,’ and in the evening on 4 The Fifth Sparrow.’ Dr Galway will be at the organ. Rev. D. C. Herron, M.C., M.A., will conduct both services in Knox Church.

At the North-east Valley Presbyterian Church the Rev. George Miller will preach morning and evening. The Lord’s Supper will be dispensed at the morning service and at the close of the evening service. The subject in the evening will be ‘ The Pilgrim’s Progress—The Delectable Mountains.’ At Maori Hill Presbyterian Church the, communion service will be held in ithe morning, with a supplementary communion at the close of the evening service. In St. Stephen’s Church the preacher will be the Rev. Thomas Miller, whose subjects will be. ‘ The Christian, Sharing Christ’s Afflictions’ and ‘ Making the Most of Your Life.’ Mr S. G. Macfarlane will conduct the morning service at Trinity Methodist Church, Stuart street, and in the evening the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse will bo the preacher, taking as his- subject ‘ The Secret of a Strong Life.’ Miss Margaret Green will sing ‘ The Virgin’s Slumber Song,’ and the quartet and chorus, ‘ O Come, All Ye Faithful,’ will be rendered by the choir. At 8 p.m. the Christmas cantata, 1 The Morn of Glory,’, will be presented by the choir and well-known vocalists. A Sunday school gift and carol service will be held in the church at 2.30 p.m.

At the Central Mission v service in the evening excerpts from ‘ The Messiah ' will be rendered by the Leech Lyric and Central Mission Choirs combined. Miss Valda M‘Curdy (soprano). Miss Maud Kenward (contralto), Mr John Leech (tenor), and Mr Les. Stubbs (baritone) will be the soloists. At the morning service the Rev. 6. B. Hinton will take for his theme ‘ Sowing in Tears.’ . A Christmas carol service will be given at the Dundas Street .Methodist Church in the evening. The choir will render a number of carols and anthems, and the soloists will bo Mrs Sparrow, Misses Rawnsley and Divers, and Mr Robins. A violin solo will be given by Miss Eva Judd. The Rev. J. A. Lochoro will conduct services in the Cargill Road Methodist Church, preaching on ‘ Growing Capacity Through Fidelity ’ in the morning, and 4 The Failure of the Expert ’ in the evening. At St. Kilda Methodist Church at the morning service Rev. A. C. Lowry will address the combined six Bible classes and will preach in the evening. A bowlers’ service will be held at the Roslyn Methodist Church in the evening. The Kaifcorai Bowling Club are attending, and bowlers and their families, will be welcome. The Rev. H. Ryan will be the preacher, and Mr E. Jones the soloist. The following are the subjects to be dealt with at the South Dunedin Baptist Church ‘ The fourfold Meaning of Rain,’ 4 Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water, •’ in honour of the Brotherhood of Toil. Rev. Stanley Jenkjn will he the preacher. Rev. H. E. Edridge will conduct both services at Caversham Baptist Church. Morning address, 4 The Jericho Road.' Scouts and Cubs will parade. Evening, baptismal service. Topic, 4 What Doth Hinder.’ At the Hanover Street Baptist. Church the evening service will take the form of a Christmas musical festival, when the church choir, augmented up to 100 voices by the Dunedin. Choral Society, will render, selectiohs from 4 The Messiah.’ A full orchestra will assist. Mr H. P. Desmouliiis will be the conductor, and the soloists will be Misses Mae Mathieson (soprano), Mary Pratt ' (contralto), Messrs Ernest Drake (tenor), and Wilfred Kershaw (bass). The morning service will be conducted by Rev. S. S. Tuckwell.

Christmas services will be conducted by the Rev. Albert Mead at the Congregational Church, Moray place. A children’s service will be held in the morning, when the minister will talk on ‘Jesus: the Hope of_ the World.’ In the evening he will deliver a Christmas message— ‘ News.’ The morning service at the United Congregational Church will be conducted mostly by the young people, and will include the annual prize-giving. The dedication of Mrs Alex. Binnie as honorary deaconess will be a feature of the evening service. The Rev James M.' Smeeth will Speak on ‘ Women Deciples of Jesus,’ and in the morning will give an illustrative talk on ‘ Scarecrows.’ Services will be conducted in the Salvation Army Citadel, Dowling street. C.S.M. Brown will deliver tho address at the holiness meeting, commencing at 11 a.nii. The people’s popular service at 7 p.m. will be conducted by Captain Albert Chandler, and the subject of the captain’s address will be ‘ Concerning Ancient Promises.’ The Citadel Band and songsters will take part in each service. Mr W.« E. Reynolds will speak at the Spiritualist Church in the evening. His subject will be ‘ Spiritualism—So That Your Faith aiid Hope Might be in God.’ Miss Burgess will give spiritual messages after , the address. In the afternoon the Lyceum will have the closing session for the yeiar.
