MINE ROOF COLLAPSES
ONE MINER KILLED. ANOTHER INJURED [Per United Press Association.] GREYMOUTH, November 27. The caving-in of a section of the root in the Paparoa mine at 3.15 p.m. today buriedtwo miners —Edward Thomas Kirwan, aged twenty-seven, a native of Reefton, and Wi ham 0 Grady, who were working in the place by themselves. Seventeen feet of the roof collapsed. Kirwan was killed instantaneously, a piece of timber having fractured his skull and _ broken _his neck. O’Grady was extricated suffering from spinal and leg injuries, ; and after an.extremely difficult journey down to the level country, during which the stretcher-bearers had to negotiate a slip, the injured man was conveyed to the Grey Hospital. He is expected to recover.
