NEW POST OF HIGH COMMISSIONER CONCERNED WITH NATIVE POLICY (British Official Wireless.) Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright* RUGBY, November 26. (Received November 28, at 1 a.m.) Mr J. H. Thomas (Dominions Secretary) stated in the House of Commons that Sir Herbert Stanley would tajed up his new appointment as High Commissioner in South Africa nest April, The object of the appointment was r'o meet the changed position of he Governor-General, following upon, rha decisions of the Imperial Conference. Mr Thomas said the British Gove - lime nt was responsible for the nat nj policy in Basutoland, the Bechun aland Protectorate, and Swaziland, aiid for certain supervisory functions in relation to native affairs in Soutlic-u Rhodesia. The Governor-General would not now be responsible ‘ to the dominions Minister, and it was essential that the control of the native policy must be in ‘ the hands of someone who wai directly responsible to him.
