QUESTIONABLE HOARDINGS.
to TUX BOITOX. Sir, —I have read with amazement tho letter dealing with questionable hoardings. The letter apparently refers to the poster exhibited opposite the George Street School advertising ‘ In Gay Madrid.’ I do not intend to reply at length to Professor Lawson’s remarkable letter, but feel that I cannot let the opportunity pass without expressing my absolute amazement at tho state of mind that can induce the writing of such a letter. It makes ono tremble when one realises that the education of our youngsters is probably under the direct control of a man who can let his imagination run riot in such a manner. It would be interesting to know what Professor Lawson’s opinion would be of practically every work of art exhibited in our national galleries, including such beautiful studies as Venus do Milo. It would be of far greater advantage if he gave more attention to deleting some of the very questionable studies which are very often given to students of Greek literature. In conclusion, I can only say that I am perfectly convinced that tho poster in question would have no ill-effect whatever on anyone whoso mind did not run in pornographic channels. Truly it is a case of “he who looks for evil will always find it.”—l am, etc., Ale? Regan. November 28.
TO TUX EDITOR. Sir, —We have read at different times some remarkable things written by educationists, but wo have never read anything so utterly foolish as that which appears over the name of a professor of education on the above subject. But we arc not concerned very much with the peculiar views of the professor. What we are concerned about is that his statements are contrary to fact. The poster is not pornographic. Most people (like the professor) do not avert their gaze when they pass, and tho effect of the poster on the morals of the average school child would bo nil.—l am, etc., Exhibitoii.
