UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF FUNDS
TO THE EDITOR. yir,—A few weeks ago Mr 11. Gore wrote in your columns in reference to the accounts of the Hon Bon Revue, but as 1 knew that lie was not in a position to make any statement that was reliable I did not reply. In last evening’s issue, however, Mr Goro stated that he has made inquiries into the accounts, and criticises the man ngement and those who ran the show. If Mr Goro had mado inquiries lie should not have made the statement that the wages paid were £195, for the balance-sheet published in the ‘ Star ’ showed that the wages were £95 only. Mr Goro deplores the fact that the workers did not give their services for nothing. This would have been all right, hut I can inform Mr Gore that three-quarters ol the workers were on the unemployed list, and the balance were permanent workers who could not alford to lose a week’s work ; their work at the theatre could not be performed by amateurs, and they could not be expected to give a whole week’s pay any more than we could expect' Mr Gore to give up the whole of his week’s collection of rent The workers concerned did not “sting” the committee in their charges, but did more than could ho expected of them. Mr Goro also, wishes to see the list ol workers who received wages at the revue. All ho has to do is to call at my office, ami J shall be pleased to show him the list and any other matter connected with Lho revue, hi conclusion 1 should like. Mr Gore to inform the public, through your columns, what help ho gave to the management of the revue in the interest of tho unemployed.—l am. etc., W . AY. B-ATcuixon, No vc m her 7.
