FIRST CONCERT TO-MORROW NIGHT
Jan Kubelik, the idol of English, American, and Continental audiences, will arrive in Dunedin this evening. The renowned violinist will give the first of his two recitals in the Town. Hall to-morrow evening, commencing at 8 o’clock, when a programme of universal interest will be presented. Iha second recital will take place nest Wednesday night, and this will be Kubelik’a farewell appearance. Not under any circumstances can the_ seaso’n be extended or any return visit made. From his earliest concert years Jan Kubelik has been almost overwhelmed by official recognition. The French Republio awarded him the Legion d’Honneur, and'he has also received a, great number of distinctions from tne_ various Courts of Europe. His brilliant successes in England had their echoes -n America, where his receptions can only be described as incredible. In Russia Kubelik was accorded a welcome -inequalled save by Rubinstein. Hereha was invited to the palace and awarded the Cross of St. Anne. Early this year Kubelik set out on a world tour, and the concerts have met with unprecedented success all the world over, hi New York there were oyer 5,000 people present at his first recital. It was in: 1910 that Jan Kubelik acquired, at enormous expense, the famous Strathvarius violin that has been christened “ The Emperor,” and, along with "The Messiah,” and the “Allard,” is one of the three best in the world. _The Emperor ” will be on view at the Bristol to-morrow morning from 11 till 1 o’clock. It is insured for £25,000. For the convenience of late shopper* the boobing will bo open this evening until 8.30.
