MAORI HILL SCHOOL

ANNUAL SALE OF WORK Tho Maori Hill Coronation Hall presented a lively scene this afternoon when the annual sale of work of the school was opened to the public. Generally speaking the display of goods made a particularly attractive scene, and great credit is due to the School Committee and to the ladies of the dis trict who so kindly devoted their tinn to make the undertaking a success. A most interesting collection of materials was to bo seen on tho various stalls, and tho goods found a ready sale. With such a worthy object as the improvement of the school surroundings, the fair is deserving of tho most generous patronage. In addition to the large variety of stalls, a number of competitions added to the interest and enthusiasm of the visitors. Baking competitions for both children and adults, sewing competitions for girls of the school, and woodwork competitions for hoys were among the attractions. Tho mayor (Mr R. S. Black), in oflicially opening tho sale, referred to the fine "work done by the ladies of the district in organising tho fair, and stated that such si spirit among the parents of children nt the school was to be commended. ft was, indeed, very encouraging to know that tho parents of the (district were so extremely’ interested in tho welfare of their children. Much depended on the school surroundings in the development of the child’s mind and body, and he sincerely trusted that the school’s effort in raising money for that purpose would be a great success.
