The imports decreased by £19,764,000, the exports by £12,363,000, and the re-exports by £1,342,000. The principal decreases are shown in the imports of grain and flour, which was £3,795,000, meat £1,102,000; food and drink, non-dutiable, £1,990,000; dutiable £974,000; wood and timber £1,594,000, cotton £1,378,000, oil seeds, etq., £1,126,000, rubber £1.175,000. The principal decreases in the exports were iron and steel and manufactures thereof £1,371,000 cotton yarns and manufactures £3,483,000, woollen yarns and manufactures £1,085,000. It may be pointed out that wholesale prices have fallen nearly 15 per cent, compared with a year ago, so the total decline in imports and exports are not seriously greater than might lie accounted for by the difference in prices.
