CLERGYMAN'S LONG LIFE
HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY. The Rev. Charles Green, of Eastbourne, England, celebrated his 100th birthday on August 9. Until a year or two ago he used to get at least one and a-half hour’s walking daily, and he was well in the nineties before he gave np his annual birthday, walk before breakfast to the top of Beachy Head and back—about six miles in all. For the greater part of his life, Mr Green says, his health was rather “ below par,” and he was never at all robust. He was originally a Congregational minister, but- entered the Church of England in 1860 and held curacies at Seaham Harbour and Bishop Auckland. Mr Green was vicar of St. Mark’s, Millfield, Sunderland, from 1868 to 1875 and vicar of St. Paul’s, Beckenham, from 1875 to 1902, when he retired. He is the son of Dr William Green, for thirty years governor of the Durham County gaol.
