Few people know that Ara, the place which gives its name to one of the titles of the Marquess of Dufferin and Ava, is in Burma. The first holder of the title was the father of the Marquess, who was killed in the the recent tragedy in Kent. It was conferred in * recognition of his services in Burma and India when he was Viceroy. Much of the story is told in Tennyson Jesse’s I novel, ‘The Lacquer Lady.’ 1 “If you please, madarne, I’ve let the baby’s shawl drop out of the window.” “ How careless of you! Baby will catch his death of cold.” “ Oh, no, madamo, | lie’s still in the shawl.”
