HORTICULTURAL SHOW

m BROWNLEE WINS NARCISSI CHAMPIONSHIP MR DICK THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Further and more leisurely inspection of tho Dunedin Horticultural Society’s spring show that was opened in tho Pioneer Hall yesterday afternoon confirms tho opinion that it is on© of the best of the series—largo enough to crowd tho available space, and of exceptionally high quality. An arresting feature to connoisseurs of the narcissi is the remarkably high standard of the locally-raised seedling varieties. Visitors freely congratulate tho raisers ami tho Daffodil Club (of which they arc members) on the surprising results they.have attained—a fitting reward to many years of patient but fascinating endeavour. The judge of the narcissi was obviously impressed and perchance occasionally perplexed, for he viewed again and again before making up his mind in a number of tho classes, so tho results were announced somewhat later than usual. This afternoon afforded a better opportunity of looking into the exhibits, since access was easier than it was yesterday, and it may be expected that there will be a crowd to-night. The committee of tho society, headed by Mr John Black (president) and Mr A. D. Millar (secretary), deserve thanks for wise x>lanning and for attention to details. An exhibit for exhibition only that was omitted from yesterday’s notice is the decorated table contributed by Mrs W. Jones.
