BROAD BAY BOATING CLUB “ A highly successful season is recorded, membership having been well maintained and keen interest displayed in the club’s activities,” states the annual report of the committee of the Broad Bay Boating Club to be presented to tho members to-morrow night. In conjunction with the Otago Yacht and Fort Chalmers Clubs the official opening took place at Fort Chalmers. This function was in every way a success, and the thanks and congratulations of members were duo to the Fort Chalmers Club for their efforts in carrying out .1 he splendid arrangements for this event. As in former years, tho regatta was tho main activity of tho club, and with careful organisation and the concerted efforts of officials and competitors alike the regatta was brought' to a successful conclusion, despite tho very boisterous sou’-westcr which prevailed during the greater part of the races. The committee regretted the continued laxity on the part of some competitors in lodging entries as set out in the regatta poster. Tho Faster Saturday club races were conducted as usual, and again attracted splendid entries. As regards this function, a certain amount of interest in the sailing events was lost through the falling away of the wind during tho afternoon. Nevertheless this scries of races was a decided success.

During tho season the committee conducted a series of dances at Fortobello, and on regatta night a concert and dance at Broad Bay. Socially and financially these attained a high standard, and the committee expresses its appreciation of the efforts of Messrs T. Brookes and W. 8. Adams, on whose shoulders rested the burden of their successful conduct.

It was with tlvo deepest regret that the death of Mr J. H. Kewish was recorded. The deceased was one of the old hand of yachtsmen who wore in close touch with the sport, and during the past years his intimate knowledge of yacht racing was of great assistance to ’tlx.* Sailing Committee. Members sympathised with ox-Commodoro Alex. Begg and Mr C. W. Sundstrum in their recent family bereavements.

'To those gentlemen and (inns who again gave financial assistance, the thanks of members were due; to the handienppers in their thankless hut successful tasks tho club was deeply indebted. 'The opportunity could not bo allowed to pass of placing on record the appreciation of the Harbour Board’s sympathy and help in the. club’s interests, and to Messrs Crust and Crust, for tho use of their premises for committee meetings tho club was again indebted; to Air Swanson for bis survey of the club’s course the committee expnsscs its thanks.

The balance-sheet shows the club’s finances to be on a sound footing. It has been the aim of the committee during the present economic depression to conserve tho club’s funds as far as possible. lu retiring from office the committee thanks members for their support during the past season, and trusts that the same measure of support will he accorded the now committee, ami again wishes placed on record its appreciation of the efforts of the hop. secretary, Air 8.
