[From Oun Parliamentary Uei'oktki;.]
WELLINGTON, September 21. Particularly blow progress marks the final stages of the session, and it is Uitricult to seo how tiro Government can complete its programme by the first week of October, even with the Iricndly party arrangements, because this will apparently involve pushing aside much important work. There has been no reply to tlio representative deputation which requested that the Transport dill promised in the Governor’s Speech should bo passed this session, but an announcement should ho made during the week.
The special Select Committee to consider the position of railway lines in course of construction holds its lirst meeting on Tuesday, when a chairman will be elected. A large amount ol evidence is being prepared in various parts of the country, as the investigation revives practically every railway controversy in the dominion. 11 the session is to last only another fortnight it is evident that the original proposal to continue this inquiry in the recess will havo to be adopted, and the House will leave the major question undetermined this session. There is also tho Railway Commission’s report to ho discussed. This, Jt is understood, is close to completion. Another atempt will be made to pass tho Nurses and Midwiyes’ Registration .Bill on Tuesday, and it is intended to proceed with the Railway Estimates in tho House on Wednesday. The greatest interest during the coming week' is likely to bo taken in tho Legislative Council’s proceedings, bora use it is iphto an open question whether this section of the Legislature will pass tho ’Unemployment Bill.
