GERMAN TRAVELLER
IMPRISONED IN CHINA HONGKONG, September 4. A German traveller, Herr Hanske, representing the Deutsche Stickstoff Handolsgesellschaft, manufacturers of chemical fertilisers, at present is imprisoned at Chai, near Swatow. It appears that Hanske was visiting the district. The authorities, stating that foreign fertilisers were poisonous, arrested him and he was paraded through the city, with a fool’s cap on his head. Together with his three Chinese assistants he was later thrown into prison. As Germany lias no extra-territorial rights, the incident is causing groat concern to Gorman traders working in interior districts.
