IDLE MINE
THE GLENAFTCM DISPUTE [Special to the * Star.’] AUCKLAND, Sop tom her 17. Tho position at the Glen Afton mine is unaltered, tho mine being idle today. A meeting of tho men was held this morning. The men state that extra hands were put on tho back shift, aim as there was insufficient accommodation for them at Glen Afton,- they required a train to take them to Huntly Upon .nquiry at tho Auckland office of the company, the ‘ Star ’ was informed that there is ample accommodation at Gleu Afton, but the men refuse to occupy it, although it has been in use for several years. Some or tho men on the back shift (which comes off at midnight) live at Huntly, while others live at Glen Alton. Accommodation was provided for the Huntly men, but they declined to use it, ail’d they ask for a night tram to take them back to Huntly. Negotiations are proceeding between the company ami tho men and the Railway Department.
