AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS MORPETH BEATEN. MELBOURNE, September 17. The semi-finals of the Australian amateur and professional championships were “played to-day. In the amateur section Russell defeated Edgar 9 and 7, and Hattersley beat Sloan Morpeth at the thirtyeighth. in the professional class Stewart beat Naismith 10 and 8, and Robertson beat howler 10 and 8The finals in both sections will bo played to-morrow. The main interest centred in the amateur match between Morpeth and Hattersley, the 32-year-old Sydney player.
